City guide
Sydney's harbor, framed by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, anchors a city built around beaches, coastal walks and a laid-back outdoor lifestyle, making it Australia's most visited destination.

Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who won an international design competition in 1957, the Sydney Opera House was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 20 October 1973. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, recognized as one of the defining buildings of the 20th century.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, nicknamed 'the Coathanger' for its arch design, opened in 1932. Since 1998, the BridgeClimb experience has taken visitors to its summit on a roughly three-and-a-half-hour guided climb, safety-secured the entire way — one of the few major bridges in the world where that's possible.
Bondi Beach anchors the eastern end of the roughly 6-kilometer Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, a clifftop path linking a string of ocean beaches and rock pools — a genuinely different side of Sydney from the harbor-focused CBD sights.

Sydney Airport sits about 9 kilometers south of the CBD. The Airport Link train connects directly to Central Station in around 15 minutes; taxis and ride-hailing take roughly 20-30 minutes depending on traffic, and are the more comfortable option with luggage.
Sydney Airport — WikipediaJørn Utzon's winning 1957 design took 16 years to become the finished building, with Australian architect Peter Hall completing the interior design after Utzon's 1966 resignation from the project. The building opened in October 1973 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007.
Sydney Opera House — WikipediaBridgeClimb has operated since 1998, taking visitors to the top of the Harbour Bridge on a roughly three-and-a-half-hour guided, safety-secured climb, usually booked ahead. Walking across the bridge's dedicated pedestrian walkway is free and requires no booking, for those who'd rather skip the climb.
Sydney Harbour Bridge — WikipediaSydney's ferry network, covered by the same Opal card used on trains and buses, connects Circular Quay to harbor destinations including Taronga Zoo, Manly and Watsons Bay — genuinely useful transport, not just a scenic extra.
Sydney.com — Getting AroundSydney's summer (December-February) brings the warmest weather but also the highest prices and biggest crowds, especially around the harbor for New Year's Eve fireworks. Autumn (March-May) and spring (September-November) offer milder, more comfortable conditions with fewer visitors.
