Depok sits just south of Jakarta as part of the wider Jabodetabek metro area, best known as home to the University of Indonesia and the golden-domed Dian Al-Mahri Mosque — a practical, largely residential city rather than a headline tourist destination.

The University of Indonesia's 359-hectare Depok campus is a green, lake-dotted world of its own — six named lakes, 20+ km of bicycle paths, and the "Crystal of Knowledge" central library (2011), considered the largest university library in Southeast Asia and open to visitors, not just students.
Masjid Dian Al-Mahri's five golden domes and six minarets, inaugurated in 2006 across a 50-hectare complex, accommodate around 20,000 worshippers and draw visitors as both an active mosque and a family day-out destination — free to enter, with no formal tourist infrastructure between you and the building.
Rather than a staged tourist stop, Depok is where a slice of the Jabodetabek metro area actually lives and studies — connected to central Jakarta by the KRL Commuterline, it gives a more everyday look at greater Jakarta life than the capital's tourist core.
The University of Indonesia campus and Depok's two adjoining malls, all within a short ride of each other along Margonda Raya.
The city's two most photographed sights — the Golden Dome Mosque and a family-friendly lake — both southwest of the main campus area.
A lakeside recreation spot and the University of Indonesia's own lake-dotted campus grounds, both easy, low-cost outdoor stops.
A compact loop through Depok's commercial and academic core, all within a short walk or ride along Margonda Raya.
A day covering Depok's two southwestern landmarks, ending back near the main commercial corridor.
A complete circuit covering the university campus, the Golden Dome Mosque, a family lake and the mall corridor — best with ride-hailing between stops, since Depok isn't walkable end to end.
The University of Indonesia's "Crystal of Knowledge" library, completed in 2011, is considered the largest university library in Southeast Asia and is open to outside visitors as well as students — a rare chance to walk through a major Indonesian university campus without an appointment.
Official sourceMasjid Dian Al-Mahri functions as both a working mosque and a family tourism destination, but no official opening hours, entry fee or dress-code policy are published — plan to arrive during daylight and dress modestly, as you would for any active mosque.
Official sourceDepok is served by six KRL Commuterline stations connecting directly to central Jakarta — the most efficient way to travel, though services get very crowded during peak commuting hours.
Official sourceDepok's two main shopping malls, Margo City (opened 2006, 9.2 hectares) and Depok Town Square (opened 2005, roughly 160,000 sqm), stand directly adjacent to each other on Jalan Margonda Raya, forming the city's main commercial core near the UI campus.
Official sourceThis artificial lake in Sawangan is open daily roughly 8am–6pm with free entrance; visitors pay only for parking and individual attractions such as duck boats or the flying fox, most starting around Rp 5,000.
