Recommended for bulk cities. Prepares the GeoNames cities15000 dump and imports city names in batches on the server. Default minimum population 50,000 (no town/village dump). Stop/resume anytime. Countries must exist first. Attribution: GeoNames CC BY 4.0.

Country facts Monthly

Background job refreshes each country’s facts (languages, currency, dialing code, EU/Schengen) one-by-one. Exchange rates are handled by the separate schedule below. First run starts automatically after deploy; then on the 1st of each month at 02:00 Europe/Berlin (CEST/CET). You can also start/stop manually.

Exchange rates 3× daily

Background job loads one EUR rate feed (Frankfurter + open feed) and updates every country’s stored exchange rate. First run starts after deploy; then every day at 06:00, 12:00 and 17:00 Europe/Berlin (CEST/CET).

Places auto-import Weekly

Same pattern as the GeoNames city job: prepare the city queue first, then start/resume. Uses the editable OSM key=value tags below for every prepared city. Schedule: Monday 03:00 Europe/Berlin. Cities must exist first (step 2 above).

0 = all cities. Example: 50000 matches the GeoNames major-city default.

After the main run finishes, use Prepare retry queue then Start retry job to re-import cities that failed (for example dense metros that hit memory limits before r111).

Prepare the city queue first, then start. Cities run largest→smallest. Re-imports only download OSM objects changed since the last complete scan, and apply field differences (phone, website, hours, etc.) to existing places. Weekly schedule and job status appear here.

Weekly data auto-import Weekly

Choose which reference data the weekly job imports. Airports and traveler-useful embassies/consulates come from OpenStreetMap country by country. Existing records are matched before import and unchanged records are skipped. Schedule: Wednesday 03:00 Europe/Berlin.

Stale OSM tag cleanup Daily

Travel safety advisories Weekly

Imports origin-government travel-safety advice for every destination country: GOV.UK Content API and the US State Department advisory RSS. Same prepare → start pattern as the city job. Schedule: Tuesday 03:00 Europe/Berlin.

Use this to repair or extend one country after the global GeoNames setup. It imports cities only—not towns or villages.

Cleanup

Manual cleanups for already-imported OSM places. These hide listings; they do not hard-delete them. The stale-tag job also runs daily at 04:00 Europe/Berlin.

Excluded-type cleanup covers memorials, plaques, graves, cemeteries, signposts, and similar. Stale-tag cleanup hides imports whose OSM tags are no longer in the weekly auto-import list.

Source priority: government/official sources for safety, legal, and entry data; Wikidata/Wikipedia-style structured sources for stable country facts; OSM for geography/places; specialist APIs for weather/exchange rates; Admin-curated data for rankings.

Country safety and emergency contacts

Emergency contacts are primarily country-level. Add city-specific overrides only when local numbers or local guidance are different. Admin-entered entries are public by default, but can be hidden or deleted if outdated.

Manual place submissions

Travelers can submit a place when it is missing from the directory and OpenStreetMap. Before approving, check the local list and OSM. If an OSM import later matches an approved or pending manual place, you will get an in-app notification to fix the duplicate.

Guide document management

Import country-level official travel advice into the guide document system. In this version, GOV.UK Foreign Travel Advice is supported first. Imported advice is source-tracked, visible by default because admin triggers the import, and can be edited/hidden later.

Finding destinations and places

Use Locations for countries and cities, or Places for restaurants and attractions. If a place is missing, search OpenStreetMap.

Trips, pins and weather

Create a free account to save private trips and pins. Upcoming trips can show destination weather when dates and location are set. Privacy controls are under My Profile.

Find flights

Find flights on a trip is in limited testing for selected travelers, unless live search is turned on for everyone. You can always add flights manually.

Airlines directory

Under Airlines you will find each airline’s homepage, country of origin, and service phone numbers when listed. Signed-in travelers can like or review. Check the airline’s own website for baggage and miles details. Featured ads may appear.

Groups

Join or create traveler groups for tips, photos and local discussion. Guides stay curated — Groups are for conversation. Keep posts respectful and report harmful content.

Experiences, guides and ranks

Approved experiences, place reviews, guides and group posts earn points (drafts and pending do not). Likes and Helpful votes add more. Higher ranks take progressively more points.

Claim, plans and advertising

Owners can claim a place and explore Licensed plans. While Early Access is on, approved claims may unlock Licensed tools at no charge. Featured ads are sold separately; Licensed Plus can include a limited intro city advert.

Translate posts and reviews

Where available, use Translate on group posts, reviews and similar content to read them in your interface language.

Your data and privacy

Under My Profile you can export your account data or permanently delete your account. Read our Privacy Policy, Community Terms and Impressum. Share only permitted content — photos are checked and moderators can remove rule-breaking posts.

Cookies

We use an essential session cookie (tht_session) to keep you signed in. Analytics cookies are not used by default.
